The main way that our group keeps in contact with each other is through Signal.

Signal is a modern instant messaging, voice, and video calling software. It is comparable to WhatsApp, except it is FOSS-focused (there are some clients that are fully FOSS), and the only non-FOSS part in the official client is its integration with Google Play Services for notifications on Android.

It is super reliable, easy to use, and feature-packed. You do not have to be a techie to use it.
